Best Gift EVER

The big winner in the race for best Christmas gift... the air hockey table from Grandma and PopPop! Addy has played every day and has won almost every game. She is very good, okay she does cheat a bit, but she is still good. We all enjoy playing it and the table is small enough to tuck away between games. Thanks Grandma and PopPop!

The North Pole...Colorado

Today we took Addy to the North Pole in Colorado Springs. The place has been around for nearly 60 years but this was the first visit for us.  It has carnival rides, a magic show, Santa (naturally), a small petting zoo, and some shops.

It was below thirty the whole time we were there and after about 3 hours we could not take the cold anymore but we could have easily spent another hour there.

Addy braved some rides on her own and Daddy and I took turns with her on some of the bigger rides.  We were expecting a large crowd considering it was a holiday weekend but Addy was able to walk onto most of the rides.
.

Addy and Daddy turned into Popsicles on the highest Ferris Wheel in the world (we were probably at 7000 feet elevation).

Addy's favorite ride of the day was the Tilt-A-Whirl. I had the pleasure of accompanying her on the ride both times and I was really regretting it after the second go around. I swear that thing was faster the second time. One more minute on that thing and it was not going to end well. Addy was laughing at me the whole time as I had my eyes closed and was screeching with joy.

We ended the day at Bass Pro in Denver. Daddy hit the sales and Addy walked away with her second stuffed animal of the day. We got to show Daddy the ducks while we were there. He didn't believe us when we told him they had live ducks in one of the ponds.

We had a blast today. We plan on making the trip to the North Pole again next year.

Student of the Day

Addy worked very hard on her first homework assignment for kindergarten. You could say her Student of the Day poster is glittertastic! She seemed to enjoy being the center of attention in class today, shocker, I know. The other students even had to draw pictures of her after her presentation. My favorite part is her career choice...a butterfly nurse.

Addy-ism

Me: Have you thought about what you would like to be for Halloween?

Addy: Well... we did read this book at school about superheros and it was full of excitement! I think I would like to be a superhero with a mask.

Me: That sounds like a good idea. What would your superhero name be?

Addy: Ms. Addison Superhero.

Bowling

Bad cell pics, my specialty

Last week we took Addy bowling for the first time.  She LOVED it and has asked no less then 100 times when we are going again. The bowling alley had a nice set up for kids. Along with the bumpers on the sides of the lane they also had a rack, for lack of a better description, that Addy could push her ball off of so we didn't have to wait 5 minutes for it to reach the pins. The lightest ball we could find was 7 pounds but Addy was able to carry it to the lane all by herself, she never asked for hlep.  Addy did very well and was tied with her dad for most of the two games we played. Addy also did well with taking turns, though I do remember getting a helping hand (aka push) toward the lane a few times.
Now as an amateur blogger I feel that it is my duty to report the facts and the fact is I beat the pants off John! Wow, the truth really will set you free! I feel better.

The Mother's Prayer for Its Daughter by Tina Fey

Written by Tina Fey in her new book BOSSYPANTS
(I laughed, I cried, I cheered):

The Mother's Prayer for Its Daughter

First, Lord: No tattoos. May neither Chinese symbol for truth nor Winnie-the-Pooh holding the FSU logo stain her tender haunches.

May she be Beautiful but not Damaged, for it's the Damage that draws the creepy soccer coach's eye, not the Beauty.

When the Crystal Meth is offered, May she remember the parents who cut her grapes in half and stick with Beer.

Guide her, protect her When crossing the street, stepping onto boats, swimming in the ocean, swimming in pools, standing on the subway platform, crossing 86th Street, stepping off of boats, using mall restrooms, getting on and off escalators, driving on country roads while arguing, leaning on large windows, walking in parking lots, riding Ferris wheels, roller-coasters, log flumes, or anything called " Hell Drop," Tower of Torture," or "The Death Spiral Rock 'N Zero G Roll featuring Aerosmith," and standing on any kind of balcony ever, anywhere, at any age.

Lead her away from Acting but not all the way to Finance. Something where she can make her own hours but still feel intellectually fulfilled and get outside sometimes And not have to wear high heels.

What would that be, Lord? Architecture? Midwifery? Golf course design? I'm asking You, because if I knew, I'd be doing it.

May she play the drums to the fiery rhythm of her Own Heart with the sinewy strength of her Own Arms, so she need Not Lie With Drummers.

Grant her a Rough Patch from twelve to seventeen.  Let her draw horses and be interested in Barbies for much too long, For Childhood is short -- a Tiger Flower blooming Magenta for one day-- And Adulthood is long and Dry-humping in Cars will wait. O Lord, break the Internet forever, That she may be spared the misspelled invective of her peers And the online marketing campaign for Rape Hostel V: Girls Just Wanna Get Stabbed.

And when she one day turns on me and calls me a Bitch in front of Hollister, Give me the strength, Lord, to yank her directly into a car in front of her friends, For I will not have that Shit. I will not have it.

And should she choose to be a Mother one day, be my eyes, Lord, That I may see her, lying on a blanket on the floor at 4:50 A.M., all-at-once exhausted, bored, and in love with the little creature whose poop is leaking up its back."My mother did this for me once," she will realize as she cleans feces off her baby's neck. "My mother did this for me." And the delayed gratitude will wash over her as it does each generation and she will make a Mental Note to call me. And she will forget. But I'll know, because I peeped it with Your God eyes.

Amen

4 Going On 12

Me: Addy, put your shoes in your shoe box. Why do I have to tell you that EVERY day? (looking at discarded shoes in the middle of the living room)
Addy: Because I don't like putting my shoes away.
Me: Why?
Addy: Because it's lame.

Is it just me or does she sound 12 already?

She is going to be as big as a 12 year old soon. She has grown 3 1/2 inches since November and added 6 pounds. I really don't want to be looking up at her before.... ok, well, never.
