Birthday Party

Horseback Riding

A Girl and Her Bike

Addy is totally in love with the big-girl bike she received for her birthday. She rode it up and down the hallway when we got home from her birthday party Sunday night, and bright and early Monday morning she started asking to go outside and ride.
Addy's been riding a tricycle for awhile now, so she caught on very quickly to riding the 2-wheeler. PopPop made sure she was balanced and then away she went. She even knew how to apply the brakes and stop herself. If the weather stays nice, I bet we will be out riding everyday this week. Or I should say, Addy will be riding and we'll be chasing her dust.

Happy Halloween!

Princess Addison Briar Rose aka "Sleeping Beauty"

Is this wig not the most ridiculous thing!
Addy's dress has fiber optics and lights up and her shoes are covered in sparkles.
She was in dress-up heaven!
She ate up every complement she received and if we hadn't dragged her away she would have gone into each house to discuss the finer points of her outfit.

Addy had it down this year. She knew the drill. After each house she would ask if she could go to another and try it again. She made it about a block, a large block, before her candy bucket became too heavy and she got bored and wanted to go and trick or treat Daddy at home.

We had to upgrade from Grandma's great candy corn treat holder to a larger pumpkin bucket for all the loot!
I think Addy was under the impression that only she got to go trick or treating. She seemed surprised everytime she saw another kid walking around and each time would say "boy, there are a lot of kids around here tonight."
I think she would have been less surprised to see actual witches flying by.

Happy Halloween!

It's Pumpkin Patch Time

My favorite time of the year! We headed to my favorite pumpkin patch at Anderson Farms in Erie, CO. We arrived shortly after they opened and managed to beat the crowds, yeah!
After I had Addy lay on the pumpkin I noticed that they wanted $100 for it.
Good thing it didn't break.

Cruisin'

Every time I look at this picture I think of mobility scooters. Hmm, wierd.

Addy got slobbered on by goats and cows today and loved every minute of it.

Addy do you want the unicorn?
No. Dragon.
Addy do you want the flower?
No. Dragon.
Addy do you want the ducky?
No, dragon.
Addy do you want the horse?
Draaaaaagooooon!

Did you notice John's magical powers in the center picture?

Grandpa

Her highness is ready, you may proceed.

Can't leave without a pony ride

I saw these Mr.Potato head pumpkin kits on someones Facebook the other day and had.to.have.them. (They are at Target if you were wondering)

Bet you can't guess who's who!
Okay maybe you can.

Good day!

A Conversation With Addy

Addy: Mom can we look for the Lion King movie this weekend? It's lost.
Me: Sure
Addy: Mom, what is the red thing on Scar's ear?
Me: Um, I don't know. Is it a scar?
Addy: No, I think it is an earwig.
Me: What's an earwig?
Addy: You know, it's that little thing that goes in an ear and it makes a loud squeaking noise. Like PopPop has.
Me: (laughing uncontrollably)
Addy: You know a couple days ago Grandma was holding me on her lap and you were in the shower and PopPop's thing made a really loud squeaking noise and I cried. But you didn't hear me.
Me: Oh. The earwig is called a hearing aide and it helps PopPop hear.
Addy: Ooooooohhhhh. Can I have one when I grow up?
Me: Absolutely
Addy: Thank you, thank you. You are the best!
Me: Any time.

A Conversation With Addy

Driving along...
Addy: Look Mom, look at that black stuff on the ground. That looks like dog poop all over there.
Me: Yep
Addy: Eww, someone left it there.
Me: Think so?
Addy: Yeah, we should call 911!
Me: Addy, dog poop is not an emergency.
Addy: Yes it is!
Me: No, it's not.
Addy: Uh -huh! I should have a phone so I can call 911. Mom can you get me a phone?
Me: Umm, no.
Addy: But the firemen and the policeman will come take care of it.
Me: Yes for an emergency. Dog poop is not an emergency.

We Need A Plan

I have discovered that my daughter needs a plan of action for everything.
Every morning she asks two questions.

Where is Daddy?
So, what are we doing today?

When she takes a bath she has to know each step. When she can play and when she is getting her hair washed and when she is getting out. She wants an exact time, even though she cannot tell time, of when she will have to endure the dreaded washing of the hair. And she will repeat what you said to make sure she has the information correct and so she will know if you deviate from the plan.

She also frequently asks what time it is. When you tell her the time she will ask what that means. Uh, it means it is time for Mommy to hit her head against the wall. Following that Mommy will take some Advil.

Mostly cute, sometimes annoying. For instance, we went for a walk yesterday evening. As soon as we set out...

8:01 pm
Where are we going?
We are just going to walk around.

8:03 pm
When are we going back home?
After we go for a walk.

8:05 pm
Can we go home now?
No. Relax and enjoy the walk.

8:08 pm
Are we going home now?
No. Do not ask me again.

8:11 pm
(siiiiiigh) I really wish we could go home.

8:13 pm
Are we on our way home?
No.

8:16 pm
I wish I could see my house again.

8:21 pm
I miss my home.

8:26 pm
Are we going home?
sigh

8:29 pm
We are home! There is our home!

I am more of a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants type. Time is flexible to me and I don't like planning things to the 'nth degree. She must get this from her dad!

Donut Haus

Addy Loves, with a capital L, donuts. She asks daily if she can have a donut, with chocolate, and sprinkles, oh and it should have a cool shape like a star or a heart. I limit her to a donut a week and we have started going to the Donut Haus before school on Fridays.

On Friday the Donut Lady struck up a conversation with Addy as we were
checking out the selection.

Donut Lady: Don't you look cute! I like the butterflies on your shirt.
Addy: Uh, actually they are dragonflies. (said with her best DUH voice)
Donut Lady: Oh, well we old people get things confused sometimes. (turns to me) My favorite part was when she said actually!

Yep, that's my girl

A Wish Upon A Star

Me: Addy, look at all the stars!
Addy: I want to make a wish!
Me: Okay, go ahead.
Addy: Okay, I pick that star right there.

Addy put her hands together as if in prayer, closed her eyes, bowed her head and said...

" I wish if ever I have a wish that I could have a beautiful princess dress pretty please. Oh, and don't forget the crown. Amen."

Day at the Museum(s)

Since I am off work this week I wanted to take Addy to do something special. She is into dinosaurs so I decided on the Natural History Museum in Denver.

{ I actually walked out of the house without a camera this morning so all of these photos are taken with my phone ( said with sheepish grin).}
Pharaoh Addy, Addy and CleoCatra
( she batted her eyes and Grandpa Jim melted. The child has skills.)

Grandpa Jim has been wanting to see the King Tut exhibit that is in town. We assumed that it was at the Natural History Museum...um,wrong. It was at the the Denver Art Museum so we ended up at both. We started the day at the DAM (Denver Art Museum). It was 25 dollars per person (thankfully Addy was free) and took us about an hour to walk through. It was not what we were expecting but the fact that is was at an art museum should have been a clue. There were no mummies, mostly statues and jewelry pieces (yeah!) and a couple coffins. They had some interesting facts and they staggered groups so that it was not too crowded. It was interesting but overpriced.

Next stop, Natural History Museum. Addy was excited as soon as we walked in and saw this.

I discovered that Addy's favorite dinosaur is a Triceratops. We were on the hunt for one has soon as we entered the Prehistoric Exhibit.

Addy was very good and listened to the docent talk about each item and even asked a couple of questions. Ahh, my smart baby.

I took a picture of this giant pig that used to roam Nebraska to show John. All I could think of when I saw this was " I want my baby-back, baby-back, baby-back, Chili's baby-back ribs!"

We hung out in the Discovery Zone for a bit. They had a couple pits where the kids could unearth dinosaur bones.

Addy giggling at herself. Did you see the cranium on that kid?!

I think Addy's absolute favorite spot was the space exhibit (like her father and PopPop). She got to dress up like an astronaut and drive a space ship and collect moon rocks.
She was very entertaining as Space Captain Addy. She came up with intergalactic emergencies like running low on gas and went into hero mode to save her crew. She was able to land at a gas station in the nick of time.
She did not. want. to. leave. ever.

It was a good day and my feet are killing me!

Addy learned a new word today. Skyscraper. She knew what the two words separately meant but couldn't wrap her head around way a building needs to scrape the sky.
" Do you push a button and it scape's the sky?"
"How do you make a skyscraper?"
"Does it touch the clouds?"
" Why does it need to scrape the sky?"
